Betty Sebastian, 87, of Peru passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at North Woods Village in Kokomo.
She was born in Martinsville, Indiana on October 19, 1931 to Ishmael and Mary Alice (Staley) White. She married Leo A. Sebastian on June 23, 1950, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1997. A member of Bunker Hill First Baptist Church, Betty went back to college at a later age and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from IUK. She retired as a registered nurse from Dukes Memorial Hospital. She became well-known in the community with her homemade fudge during the Christmas season. She was an avid seamstress and made quilts for her grandkids. Betty also worked for the Miami County Extension Office, going to homes and educating people on nutrition, how to cook on a budget, and other household tasks. She was a sports fan – she especially enjoyed Colts football. She also enjoyed traveling, and loved spending time with her grandkids.
Betty is survived by her children Douglas (Nancy) Sebastian of Palm Coast, FL, Tara D. Meyerink (Robert) of Grove City, OH, and Lisa Riggle (Willie) of Peru. Also, grandchildren Zachary Sebastian, Lindsay Moreno, Amber Mortillo , Courtney McClellen, Tyler VanderWerf, Stephanie Pier , and Alysse Riggle ; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Major Bradford Sebastian, brother Richard White, and sisters Grace Leohr, Lorene DuBois, and Louise Kelly.
Visitation will be held from 3pm – 7pm on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Bunker Hill First Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the church, with Pastor Richard Olson officiating. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.
