Bernita (Burrous) Goble

Bernita (Burrous) Goble, 97, passed away peacefully on August 24th, 2026, at Blair Ridge Nursing Home. Bernita was born on August 6th, 1929 to Harold and Cora Burrous in Mexico, Indiana. She attended the Mexico Church of the Brethren for most of her life and played the organ and piano for many of those years. She also attended the Peru Church of the Brethren.

During her lifetime, Bernita was employed at Peru Trust Bank, Wabash Valley Bank and Maconaquah School Corporation. Upon retirement Bernita volunteered as a Pink lady at Dukes Memorial Hospital. She was an avid golfer and loved bicycle riding, music, knitting and sewing. Bernita also belonged to the Psi lota Xi sorority and served on the Indianapolis Symphony board.

Bernita loved to travel and often talked of trips she took with her family and friends. If you asked anyone to describe Bernita, they may say she was real feisty, determined, independent and lived a long full life. She visited England, Ireland, Israel, and all 50 U.S states.

Bernita is survived by her children, Steve Lees (Patsy), and Gregg Lees (Cindy); 4 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kermit Burrous (Anita), and her husband (Gilbert Goble).

A celebration of Bernita’s life was held while she was still living, on her 95th birthday at the Blair Ridge Health Campus. Over 50 people celebrated with Bernita and were able to tell her how she had impacted their lives and what she meant to them. It was a glorious celebration.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bernita’s honor to the charity of your choice. There will be no visitation or viewing.
