Alvin Ray Hedrick Sr., 81 years young, died peacefully at his home with family at his side on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 9:05pm, after a battle with lung cancer.
Alvin served in the United Stated Marines Corps. from 1958 to 1961. He retired from Square D as a millwright/maintenance man and a jack of all trades. He married Virginia Shilling on December 23, 1964. They have 3 children: Alvin Ray Hedrick Jr. of Colorado, Jimmy Hedrick of Peru, and Tina Hedrick of Peru; as well as 3 grandkids: Destiny Chantel Wingard Hann, Brittany Hedrick, and Anthony (Tony) Blair; and 3 great-grandkids: Dalyn Quin, Desirai Quin, and Freedom Rose Hann. Alvin was a hunter, fisherman, and mushroom hunter. He enjoyed taking his boat out with his great-grandkids and babysitting them. He was always there to help you work on your car. Alvin and Virginia would leave their house unlocked for kids to eat or have a safe place to stay.
Still surviving is Alvin’s wonderful sister, whom he loved very much, Nancy Hedrick Newcom of Peru.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Shilling, mother Beatrice Irene Bowman, father Glen Hedrick Sr., stepmother Willie Hedrick, brothers Glen Hedrick Jr. and Richard (Dick) Hedrick, and half brothers Arthur Reavis and Frank Reavis.
At this time, Alvin didn’t want any services. He believed that if you wanted to see him, you would have come to see him when he was alive. Alvin was a grouchy bear, but so loveable.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Literary Aid Society on West Canal Street in Peru. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to help the family offset funeral expense.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.FlowersLeedyAllen.com.
