William Parrett Obituary

William F. Parrett, 94, of Peru, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019, one day before his 95th birthday.

He was born on June 22, 1924.  He married Irene Howell on February 28, 1948, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 28, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Parrett, and by a brother, Harold Parrett.  He is survived by two daughters, Beth (Dr. Robert) Hardee and Penny (Rev. Leonard) Bailey; two grandsons, Mark (Dana) Bailey and Chad Bailey; and three great-grandchildren, Henry, Charlie, and Ruby Bailey. He is also survived by a brother, Bill (Gail) Dimmick, Betty Yater, a foster sister, and his dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Willa Bullock. Also, several cherished nieces and nephews survive, as does his cherished caregiver Lori Hahn.  He loved giving her kisses and hugs.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from March of 1943-Janurary 1946.  He was a World War II veteran. He received the following decoration: American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and World War ll victory medal. He was a long-time resident of Peru, Indiana. Bill worked for over 40 years on the N&W Railroad. He was a member of the Peru Church of the Nazarene for more than 70 years. He served the church in many roles over the years: Bill served on the church board, was music ministry director, sang duets with his wife and traveled with a quartet doing music ministry for revivals. Bill was the youth director, assisted with vacation Bible school and anywhere when called to serve.

Many recall Bill as always having a twinkle in his eye. He could make you laugh with his funny faces and jokes.  He loved visiting family and friends over a cup of coffee and a good piece of pie.

One of his favorite Bible verses was Psalm 34:6… “In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; He saved me from all my troubles.”
