Thomas R. Lutz

Thomas R. Lutz, 71, of Peru, IN, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019.  Born in Michigan City IN, he moved to Peru in 1964 where he met his wife, Wendy (Foltz) Lutz.

Tom is survived by his wife Wendy of 49 years (her parents, Gene and Betty Foltz), son Chris (Eva) Lutz, daughter Jane (Brad) Maurer, grandchildren Alex Lutz, Erik Lutz, Madeline Maurer, Otto Lutz, Tommy Maurer, Katie Maurer and Bethany Maurer. Tom is also survived by five siblings, Barbara (Don) Teal, David (Mary) Lutz, Daniel (Andrea) Lutz, Katherine Lutz and Patricia (Jim) Day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Phyllis Lutz.

Tom and Wendy were married in the fall of 1969. Prior to their marriage, Tom served honorably in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne with combat deployment in Vietnam.  Upon returning to civilian life, he spent 10 years working at Wabash Valley Bank in Peru.  The soldier in him compelled his re-enlistment in the United States Army as full-time active duty National Guard.  His numerous military achievements include a national nomination for Soldier of the Year and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star. After he retired from the Army in 1994, he spent time working in security and with Schwann’s food service. 

Together as one, Tom and Wendy enjoyed their retirement with their friends, serving in the Peru Grace Brethren Church and making memories with their two children and their families.

Tom always found a way to piece the puzzle of life together with faith and family, food and friends and the joy of laughter. If you knew Tom, you knew a man of God who finished strong.

Funeral services are being held on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the Peru Grace Brethren Church located at 430 South Broadway in Peru. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of Tom’s life at 1:00 pm  with Pastor: Dave Jodry and Pastor: Ron Bowland officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peru Grace Brethren Church in support of the Care Commission.
