Richard J. Shanabarger

Richard J. Shanabarger, 77, of Peru passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Chase Center in Logansport, Indiana.

He was born on October 31, 1940 in Peru, Indiana to Joseph W. and Margaret L. (Hiers) Shanabarger. A retired self-employed floor care specialist, Richard was married to Mary Ellen (Case) Shanabarger, and she preceded him in death. He proudly served in the United States Army, and was a member of the Peru Church of the Brethren.

Richard is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Mary Acree. He is also survived by his children, Annette Gibbs of Logansport, Lanette Patterson (husband Paul) of South Bend, and Dawayne Shanagarger of Florida. Also surviving is a brother Joseph Shanabarger (wife Raquel) of Logansport, and a sister Martha Carter (husband Ray), also of Logansport. Also, stepchildren Curtis Ray, Kathy Raymond, Teresea Joly, Linda Gunning; grandchildren Phillip Gibbs, Blake Scott, and Jiles Scott; also seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Gerald Shanabarger and Marvin Shanabarger, and stepson Michael Ray.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 12 noon on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Peru Church of the Brethren, 134 East Fifth Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at noon, with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating. In lieu of flowers, love offering may be made through the funeral home to help offset funeral expense.
