Kathleen (Wecht) Astrup

Kathleen "Kathy" (Wecht) Astrup, 66, of Peru, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Community Howard Regional Hospital with her two daughters at her side.

Kathy was born on March 24, 1953, in Peru, Indiana, to Richard and Marcella (Kerschner) Wecht. She graduated from Peru High School in 1971 and then went on to cosmetology school. She married Wallace Astrup Jr. on November 20, 1971. She was a hairdresser most of her life, but also taught pre-school at the Peru YMCA for 13 years. Kathy was an avid gardener and loved crafting. Kathy loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.  She was known for her infectious laugh and was always able to light up a room when she entered. 

Kathy is survived by her two daughters Carly (David) Fregoso and Marcy (Charles) Kistler; her mother Marcella (Kerschner) Wecht, brother Rick (Vicki) Wecht, sister Carla Ross; grandchildren Jackson, Morgan, Shelby and Gabriel, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, and her father, Richard.

Friends may call from 10am - 1pm on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral will follow at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor Joel Larison officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
