Frederick (Fred) R. Massey Jr.

Frederick (Fred) R. Massey Jr., 92, went to be with his Lord at 12:29pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 with his loving wife of 72 years by his side.

Fred was born on August 1, 1926 in Peru, IN to Frederick (Fred) R. Massey Sr. and Ethel (Galbraith) Massey. He married the love of his life, Virginia (Brooks) Massey on March 21, 1947. Fred lived in Peru for 47 years, then Kokomo for 40 years prior to moving back to Peru.

Fred loved his country and proudly served in the Army as a S/Sgt. in the Philippines and Japan (The Battle of Luzon) during WWII. He retired from Indiana Bell, Kokomo in 1982. He met his wife at First Church of the Nazarene, Peru. They were married there and have attended there again since moving back 5 years ago. Fred loved spending time with his family, cruising, snow birding in Arizona, traveling with his wife and he loved going to church.

He is survived by his wife Virginia and daughter Rayla (Bill) Steiner. He was a loving grandfather to Jennie (Dan) Thiry, Denver, Shelleen Dawalt, Peru, and grandson Ryan Denham, Mexico, and one special great granddaughter, Mackenna Dawalt. He is also survived by nephews, Chris (Nancy) Massey, Hampton, VA, Kim (Karen) Massey, Peru and Karen and Curtis, Texas,  and also adopted son Dennis (Sandi) Allison, Phoenix, Arizona.  Fred also has several brother and sister in laws. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, John and Lee, and son, Jeffrey L. Massey.

Visitation will be held from 11am – 1pm on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru.  Funeral service will follow at 1pm, with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating, and military service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.  Burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, Peru.
