Elzena Lou Wagner
On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Elzena Lou Wagner residing at Whitesburg Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama passed away at the age of 86 after a long illness. She was born to the late Harry and Mary (Cain) Zody on 18 July 1933.
Elzena relocated from Peru Indiana to Fredericktown Ohio in the 1950s. She lived in Fredericktown for approximately twenty-three years. Elzena then relocated to Mansfield Ohio, and eventually to Huntsville Alabama in 2007. White-Westinghouse in Mansfield employed Elzena prior to her retirement. During her time in Fredericktown, she became an active member of American Legion Post 500 until her passing. Elzena worked several positions within the American Legion Auxiliary before becoming the first lady from Post 500 in Fredericktown to be elected as the 6th District Auxiliary President. She served as the District president from 1973-1975, overseeing 31 separate Auxiliary units in the state of Ohio. In 1991, Elzena then went on to become the Departmental Chapeau d’ Ohio for the 8 & 40, serving from 1991-1992. Elzena was very proud of this accomplishment, since her efforts supported aiding research for respiratory illnesses in children. Elzena was always willing to help a neighbor or friend; she loved to travel and see new places and was a very patriotic lady.
Elzena is survived by her son Steven (Lou Ann) Moore, two granddaughters Erica (Jeremy) Fry and Micah (Jeff) Williams and three great grandchildren. Surviving sisters and brothers, Margaret Hinkle, Frank (Joyce) Zody, Rex Zody, Irene (Robert) Ruhl, Carl Zody, Gary (Terry) Zody and Joe Zody. In addition, sister-in-law Annie Zody and brother-in-law John Squires also survive Elzena. Many nephews and nieces also survive her. Her eldest son James Moore, brothers Glen and Walter Zody, sister Sue Squires, and sister-n-law Joanne Zody, predeceased her.
Visitation will be held from 11am – 1pm on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home 105 W. 3rd St., Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 1pm, with Pastor Robert Adelsperger officiating. Burial will take place at Santa Fe Cemetery.
