Dennis W. Abbott

Dennis W. Abbott went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 17, 2019 at his residence in Peru. He was born on July 9, 1947 in Peru, Indiana to Ada June and Ernie L. Abbott.

Dennis served a tour of duty in Vietnam from April 1968 through May 1969 and was a member of the 1st 52nd Infantry for which he earned the Purple Heart, The Bronze Star with Valor Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Combat infantry Badge. 

He married Karen Wallick in 1969 and together, they had a son, Mark A. Ventura of Texas. In 1973 he married Ruthann Hilgeman and together, they had three children: Angela Abbott of Peru, IN, James Abbott of Athens, GA, and Timothy (Chelsea) Abbott of Peru, IN. In 1999, he married Wendy Dickerhoff, who resides in NM.

Survivors include three brothers and a half sister, Danny L. Abbott (Rosellen) of Macy, IN, Robert D. Abbott (Dianna) Johnson City, IN, Jeffrey A. Abbott (Teresa) Peru, IN, and Sybil Qualls of FL.  Also, 15 grandchildren and 4 step-children, Crystle Dickerhoff of Peru, Amber Owens of NM, Matt Dickerhoff of NM, and Steve Dickerhoff of IA, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was greatly loved by his family and most everyone who met him. He was a kind soul who helped anyone who needed or asked for it without question. He was a hard worker throughout his life and will be missed by his family and the community.

Visitation will be held from 4pm – 8pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the funeral home, with Pastor J. Robert Clark officiating.  Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.  Military service will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.

Memorial donations may be made to The Scratching Post, Peru Animal Care and Control, and the Kokomo Humane Society.
