Billy Brown Obituary

Billy Gene Brown, 66, of Sumava Resort, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019.

He was born in Miami County on November 6, 1952 to Carmon Junior Brown and Dorothy Dean (Smith) Thorpe.  He was raised by Carmon and Lorrine Brown.  He served in the United States Marine Corps. and retired as a welder. Billy was a member of the Boilermaker Union.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.  When Billy turned 18, he told his mom that he was going to hitchhike across the country… and he did.  He went from one side of the United States to the other.  Later, following in the footsteps of his father, Billy decided to go into the honeybee business as a beekeeper.

He is survived by his children: Tonya Baily (John) of Ohio, James Brown of Peru, Jeremy Brown of Peru, Carmen-Marie Nickou Brown of Austin, TX, and Samantha Wilson-Brown of Edwardsburg, MI.  Also, brothers Jerry Brown of Peru, Tony Brown of Marion, David Thorpe of Peru, Eric Thorpe of Peru, Steve Thorpe of Cookville, TN, and Jimmy Brown of Houston, MO; and sisters Linda Fox (Jeff) of Peru, Shirley Burns of South Bend, Connie Martin of Granger, and sister Josie Michelle Thorpe of Cookville, TN.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Teresa Thorpe.

Visitation will be held from 10am – 12pm on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral service will follow at 12pm.
