Carlene Harmon entered Heaven on June 17, 2022, following a lengthy illness due to COVID.
She was born on November 23, 1961, to Chester and Anita (Cunningham) Finster. She married Mark V. Harmon on February 16, 1991, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2020.
Carlene graduated from Peru High School and Grace College with a teaching degree. She had a God-given gift for making learning fun, and she loved to see her students succeed. She ended her teaching career by retiring for health reasons from Maconaquah Elementary School after 25 years of teaching there. She was a member of the Peru Church of the Brethren and Grace Brethren Church. She was very much involved in leading others to Christ through serving on teams for Brethren Way of Christ. She was passionate about witnessing to others, even while she was a patient in various medical facilities during her illness. She loved to laugh and had a delightful sense of humor.
Carlene is survived by her son, David Harmon, Bunker Hill, and her daughter-in-law, Sadie Harmon, whom she loved as a daughter; her sisters-in-law, Patty Finster, Pine Grove, Pennsylvania; and Susan (Ben) Church, Peru; brother-in-law, Jay (Valerie) Harmon, Roland, Iowa; nieces, Rachel Harmon, Waterloo, Iowa; Ashley Bartley, Franklin, Tennessee; Allyson Lash and great-nephew, Hayden Finster, Strausstown, Pennsylvania; nephews, Adam (Vanessa) Harmon, Marshalltown, Iowa; Tanner Jones, Lafayette; Trent Jones, Peru; Tyler (Gabby) Jones and great-nephew, Elliott Jones, Fort Wayne; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stan and Mary Bennett, Bunker Hill; and Alex (Carol) Meyers, Kokomo, a “chosen” son, and their children, Landon, Cassidy, Brinley, and Collin, Kokomo.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Dean Finster and Rodney Finster, and sister-in-law, Melinda Finster.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 9am to 11:30am at the Peru Grace Brethren Church, 430 South Broadway, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 11:30am with Pastor Dave Jodry officiating. Burial will take place at Rankin Cemetery at a later date.
