Bartley "Shorty" O'Bryant Oaks Sr.

Bartley “Shorty” O’Bryant Oaks Sr., 88, of Peru, IN passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 9:10am.

Bartley was born in Prairie City, Illinois on April 25, 1936 to Herman and Lorrine (Collins) Oaks, who preceded him in death. Also proceeded him in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy Deon, Condexter and Raymond Oaks; three sisters, Dolly and Peggy Marie Oaks and Linda Rasmus. One sister survives, Mildred “Mickey” Arnett.

On July 6, 1957, he married Clara Laniece Myers, who proceeded him in death. Together, they had Three children; Janie (Kirk) Holden, Bartley Oaks Jr., and Linda (Derald) Dilsaver. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Melissa Holden, Lindsey (Mike) Granson, Jordan (Kasey) Holden, Whitney (Jordan) Swing, Bo (Sarah) Oaks, Candy (Zack) Prairie, Dillon (Alexis) Dilsaver, and 20 great grandchildren.

Bartley was the owner/operator of Bartley Oaks Paving and Bartley Oaks Masonry Repairs in Peru, IN. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Bartley enjoyed gambling at the casino, drag racing, and watching his son race. He loved music and enjoyed singing, especially Elvis and old country music. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren swim and play by the pool.

Bartley was a hardworker all of his life and enjoyed going to work with his grandson, Dillon.

Visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. The funeral service will take place at 11am on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 with Robert Bremer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana where Shorty will be laid to rest next to his loving wife, Sandy.
